Boaz City Schools received an Alabama Department of Early Childhood Education grant to fund Parents as Teachers, a voluntary program that focuses on school readiness, child and family health and well-being, as well as helping families access resources in our community.
Parents as Teachers is an evidence-based early childhood program that provides home visits to support new or expecting parents. Through monthly visits, parents develop a better understanding of child development, expectations, and gain creative skills to support school readiness. A certified parent educator is assigned to each family. Through fun personal visits, parent workshops, group meetings, and developmental screenings parents learn what to expect during each stage of their child’s development. This customized information helps parents capture the teachable moments in everyday life to enhance their child’s language development, intellectual growth, social development and motor skills.
